Why study Accounting?

You should also have an interest in the business environment. After studying this course, you will be able to undertake accounting tasks confidently and with precision. Producing a set of financial accounts to show the profitability and efficiency of a business is essential to ensure success. Mind you, it is not all about figures, as ethical and social issues are also discussed. Should profit be everything?

What are the entry requirements?

You will need grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths plus at least a grade 4 in English or a humanity subject.

How will I be assessed?

Two exams: 3 hours each

The A level will consist of two three hour examinations (Paper 1: Financial Accounting, Paper 2: Accounting for Analysis and Decision Making) to be taken in year 13. Both examinations have three sections: Section A is multiple choice and short answer questions; Section B has two structured questions and Section C has two extended answer questions.

What do students do after studying Accounting?

The study of Accounting works really well with Business with some cross over in content, theory and application. Accounting is a good A Level for those considering career options in Business and Finance. The qualification provides exemption from certain professional accounting examinations. The accounting profession offers a number of varied career opportunities including chartered accountancy, industry, commerce and the public sector.

What are the enrichment opportunities?

Our aim is to provide opportunities for you to see how the theory from the course can be applied in the real world. As part of this course we take students to see businesses in action, in the past we have been to the Longleat Estate and Numatic Ltd, where Henry Hover is manufactured. This year in the planning stages for 2024/2025 are other local and international trips.
