School Direct Programme - Maths, PE, MFL, Biology

Sturminster Newton High School is situated on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton. The school is very small and welcoming with around 500 students in Key Stages 3 and 4. We share a very successful joint Sixth form with Shaftesbury school and regularly send students to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We are part of the North Dorset Partnership, which comprised of The Gryphon School, Gillingham School, Shaftesbury School and Sturminster Newton High School working in conjunction with The University of Exeter and the Mid- Somerset Consortium (MSC) to train suitable candidates for the postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE). Both the University of Exeter and the MSC ITT programmes are classed as Outstanding by Ofsted.

Our staff are fully committed to enabling students to achieve their best and the pastoral support for our students helps to create a very supportive environment for academic and personal development. The students are a pleasure to teach and keen to do well. Visitors comment on the friendly atmosphere as soon as they enter the school and this is reflected in comments made by the many trainee teachers who visit us for classroom experience.

“The School appears as a very good environment to teach, and I was impressed by the good behaviour of the children and the authority of the teachers!”- Potential MFL teacher visit 6/14
