Type:         BTEC Level 3 Nationals

Why choose Creative Digital Media Production?

The qualification provides an introduction to the study of creative digital media production at this level. Learners develop an understanding of the media industry through analysing media representations and pitching and producing media projects.

What will I learn?

This BTEC qualification offers the opportunity to develop practical and technical skills in photography, filming, image manipulation and editing as well as the transferable skills of team work, organisation and decision making.

What are the entry requirements?

It is not necessary to have taken the GCSE Media Studies course although this will provide a solid background to the representation covered. Students should have an interest in film and have passed core subjects at GCSE level.

How will I be assessed?

Learners will largely be assessed by undertaking practical tasks and are rewarded for planning materials, the pre-production process, and for fully realised digital productions in several forms: Film, websites, magazines, advertising etc.

There is one online examination unit focusing on Media Representations, in which students apply pre-learnt theories and concepts. The other three units focus on creative, practical tasks: pre-production planning, filming and editing and pitching the completed film.

What do students do after studying Media Studies?

Learners completing their BTEC Nationals in Creative Digital Media Production will be aiming to go on to employment, possibly in the creative industries, often via the stepping stone of higher education.
