Why study Drama and Theatre Studies?

This course inspires students to become independent theatre makers with the skills they need to go on to higher education, whether that is to study a course in drama and theatre or another subject. It is an opportunity for creative expression, to have fun whilst learning and to create a unique bond with your peer group.

 

What will I learn?

This qualification emphasises practical creativity alongside research and theoretical understanding. Students learn through experience, seeing theatre and making theatre for themselves. Students are introduced to a wide range of theatrical styles and contexts as they explore plays practically, devise and create performances. Students choose to develop as a: performer, designer (lighting, sound, set, costume, puppets), director or any combination of these.

 

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum GCSE grade 4 in English and GCSE grade 4 in one of Drama / Art / Design / Music / Media / Textiles.

 

How will I be assessed?

Component 1: Drama and Theatre. 3 hour written paper 40%

Component 2: Creating Drama. Self-devised Performance and Working Notebook 30%

Component 3: Making Theatre. Performance of an extract with Reflective Report 30%

 

What do students do after studying Drama and Theatre Studies?

Students who study this course typically move on to study acting at drama schools, performance-based degrees, design degrees, art foundation and law degrees.

 

What are the enrichment opportunities?

Students are given the opportunity to write, produce and perform in a full-length show. Theatre visits are arranged to a variety of venues to watch an eclectic array of plays and students are given the choice of taking L.A.M.D.A examinations.
