 Why study Business?

BTEC Business students are encouraged to develop a range of important skills which are transferable to any walk of life.  Students can focus on their career aspirations or work area within the specification in which there are specialist pathways consisting of: Finance, Marketing and Human Resources.

 

What will I learn?

You will learn real, practical skills for the business world. These include:  making presentations, completing group tasks, interpreting financial data, producing business documents and responding to tough business decisions. You will also learn the academic skills necessary for university success.

Year 1

Exploring Business – you will gain an overview of the key ingredients for business success. (Internally Assessed Assignments)

Personal and Business Finance – finding out how financial decisions are made and recorded.  (External Examination)

 

Year 2

Developing a Marketing Campaign – you will learn how important marketing is to business (Externally Set Case Study Examination)

The Recruitment and Selection Process – you will learn how recruitment builds business success. (Internally Assessed Assignments)


What are the entry requirements?

GCSE grade 4 in English and GCSE grade 4 in Maths.

No prior knowledge will be assumed.

 

How will I be assessed?

The course includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to a Business qualification

Assignments - Set and marked by teachers

Tasks - Provide students with work‐based challenges in timed, realistic work conditions

 

What do students do after studying Business?

Students who have completed a BTEC National in Business can continue to Higher Education courses in Business Management, Financial Management or Business Marketing.  Students may also move directly into the sector as advanced level apprentices in Business & Finance.

 

What are the enrichment opportunities?

Students visit local businesses to see, first hand, how they are managed.  Students are able to observe the business structure, culture and resources in detail. The Department visits Business conferences for students as well as examination technique workshops and seminars.  In addition, students are encouraged to have a work placement in a business setting.
