Course Overview

If you have a natural curiosity about the world and a desire to understand it, then Biology is for you. The course is varied; topics covered range from biochemistry to human disease and environmental biology.

 What will I learn?

You will study topics such as biodiversity, disease, genetics, evolution, and ecosystems, as well as transport systems and homeostasis. Students learn to make close observations, collect and analyse data and make scientific conclusions. Above all students will be taught to appreciate the complex and amazing ways in which living things work.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through terminal written exams, covering both theoretical content and practical skills. There is also a practical component assessed by your teachers. Practical skills will be assessed within the written papers as well as students completing at least 12 practical activities to demonstrate practical competence. Practical competence is assessed by teachers and awarded a separate pass or fail.

Progression

Studying Biology can lead to a range of careers in fields such as medicine, biotechnology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, agriculture, and environmental conservation.

What are the enrichment opportunities?

We enjoy putting our practical skills to good use including field studies at Studland Bay.
