Due to retirement we are looking for a multi-skilled and capable individual to manage and lead the preparation work for the Science Department. This is a varied and interesting role. The successful candidate will be proactive, reliable, calm, approachable and flexible with the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team. Ideally the successful candidate will have prior School Science technician experience, but some lab experience is essential.

This post would involve working 37 hours per week during term time including inset days. The specific framework of the day will be decided with the successful applicant but the general timeframe will be based around 8am until 4pm.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent organisation and administrative skills
  • An academic qualification in at NVQ level 3 or above
  • Be able to work on their own initiative in an organised and flexible manner
  • Excellent lab knowledge and experience


  • Full Time Senior Science Technician – Term time (inc. inset) only
  • Working to assist the class teacher(s)
  • Preparing practical lessons for KS3, KS4 and KS5
  • Supportive Science team

Sturminster Newton High School is situated on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton. The school is very small and welcoming with around 500 students in Key Stages 3 and 4. We share a very successful joint Sixth form with Shaftesbury school and regularly send students to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We are part of the North Dorset Partnership, which comprised of The Gryphon School, Gillingham School, Shaftesbury School and Sturminster Newton High School working in conjunction with The University of Exeter and the Mid- Somerset Consortium (MSC) to train suitable candidates for the postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE). Both the University of Exeter and the MSC ITT programmes are classed as Outstanding by Ofsted.
